I’ll be turning 65 soon, when should I start the process of Enrolling in Medicare?
Answer:
Your Medicare enrollment period begins three months before the
month of your 65th birthday. This marks the beginning of what is called
your Initial Enrollment Period. This period lasts seven months total,
and includes the three months before the month you turn 65, the month in
which you turn 65, and the three months after.
If you are
receiving Social Security or Railroad Retirement Board benefits when you
first become eligible to enroll in Medicare, then you’ll be
automatically enrolled in Part A and Part B and will get your Medicare
card in the mail.
